Maintaining the Equilibrium

I don’t actually have anything terribly interesting to post today. However, I didn’t want to look like I’ve been neglecting my site. The last few days have been very very hot, making the journey from my work to my car very difficult. Though since my new car has functioning air conditioning, things are quickly rectified. Last Saturday, Andy and I dropped off what we hope to be the last of our Goodwill boxes. Ever since we moved in to the house over a year ago, the same boxes have been sitting in the foyer, the corner of the living room, and in our bedroom. The said boxes were filled with gently used, but no longer wanted clothing, computer parts, books, and other knick knacks. The house suddenly looks so much bigger, and might I say quite nice without all that clutter.

To make up for the lack of clutter, Andy bought himself a Nintendo Wii last week. He got very lucky and happened to find one, which he immediately snatched up and purchased, like Jabber going after cheese. For those of you that find that analogy confusing, you’ll just have to take my word on the fact that our puppy LOVES cheese. She will inhale cheese before you have even realized it has hit the floor. Silly dog, though I can’t blame her for her love of cheese. It’s pretty tasty stuff.

After his Wii splurge, Andy felt a little guilty. So, he let me indulge in a purchase of my own. I bought these incredible and awesomely gorgeous shoes. Hey, we all have our own tastes, you may not understand my love of shoes, but I certainly don’t understand some people’s love of camping (Why would I willingly want to sleep on the ground? It’s cold, it’s smelly, it’s hard, and there are bugs everywhere!), golfing (trying to hit a teeny tiny ball into a teeny tiny hole with a stick…hm…I think not), or celery (the most disgusting and despised vegetable in the world, in my opinion). Though, for those of you that do enjoy shoes as I do…I took a picture! The picture’s a little fuzzy, I apologize about that. Aren’t they lovely? (No mom, I will not fall down in them)

My brand new pretty shoes.

Today was my day off of work, since I worked Sunday, and it’s been pretty productive. I did massive amounts of laundry, ate lunch with the ol’ lab folks at Pappas (tasty but slightly overpriced burgers), went to Sephora because I needed new foundation (I decided to try Bare Essentials. I just couldn’t resist those infomercials, but was never bold enough to order through the phone without trying it on first), wrapped all sorts of birthday presents, and cooked dinner (mini-turkey meatloafs with broccoli noodles). Andy has fallen asleep on the couch and Jabber is staring out the window, growling at kids riding their bikes. Like I said, nothing terribly interesting to post, I’m just doing what I always do. Let’s hope I’ll have something more interesting to say next week. ^-^

A Ninja Rockin’ Birthday for David

Last week, was our friend David’s birthday. I would’ve liked to throw a party. Alas, I was feeling particularly lazy, so we just picked a night where we could all go out for dinner. We celebrated at a fun local Mexican restaurant. As per most Mexican restaurants, we munched on chips and salsa, slurped gigantic margaritas, and enjoyed a very tasty collection of dishes. I particularly love this place because of their homemade corn tortillas. Throw away all your normal conceptions of corn tortillas, these break every mold! Yum…I’m making myself hungry just thinking about them. ^-^

Sadly, waitor kept cutting Birthday Boy David out...

After dinner, we came back to our house to chat, watch movies, and of course, eat birthday cake! Slight hiccup in my master plan though. I wanted to get David an ice cream cake, since Andy’s was such a success. However, I’m not hugely fond of Marble Slab Creamery’s price or service at our local store. So, I went with Carvel for the occasion. I checked online for their phone number, and their cake sizes. I saw that their Lil’ Love Cake served 4 to 6 people. I thought to myself, that’s absolutely perfect! We had a total of 5 people, and we would have just eaten a lot of food anyhow.

So, when I went to go pick up the cake, I was in absolute shock! The cake was the tiniest, little baby cake I’ve ever seen! It was decorated very nicely, but it was just so small! The nice people at the store had already written David’s name on the cake, I had to purchase it! Later that night, before presenting the cake, I had to prepare everyone for the puniness that was David’s cake. In my defense, I wasn’t trying to be cheap, the description really did say “serves 4 to 6″! You can double check at the link above. Additionally, I didn’t want to be left with too much excess cake laying around the house for Andy and me to eat.  Luckily, my friends didn’t seem to mind. Though they did agree that it was indeed a very very small cake, tasty, but very small.

David and his itty bitty baby cake.

Andy and I didn’t really do much last weekend. Since it was tax-free weekend, we did go buy Andy some new work clothes from Banana Republic. He’s very fashionably set for the next 6 months. I fell in love with a pair of Ann Taylor shoes. They’re black strappy sandals called the Noel sandal. They were majorly on sale at $29.99, but unfortunately they no longer have any in size 7.5 anywhere in the continental US. I was sorely disappointed, but I suppose there will be other styles and other shoes, right? Sigh…stylish and comfortable, that could be long in the coming.

Nobody Likes Goodbye’n, Unless You’re Hawaiian

In this horrible over 100 degree heat we’ve been having in Texas, my poor car’s air conditioning broke down again. So, Andy and I took it in to the shop yesterday morning. Turns out, both the evaporator and the compressor was leaking! Now, I have no idea what either of these components actually do. But I do know that to replace them was going to be $2000! On top of that, my wheels are starting to separate, the cd player is starting to act up, and the front windows can’t roll back up without me yanking on them. Taking all this into account, Andy and I decided to start looking for a new car.

We went to the Freeman Toyota in Hurst last night. After much hemming and hawing on their part, I ended up getting a brand new 2007 Toyota Yaris for a pretty decent price. If you really want to know how much, you’ll just have to ask me in person. I have thought long and hard, and named the car Yasminda the Yaris. It’s a wonderful car, and perfect for me. It’s nice and small, making it easy to park, but it still feels roomy inside the car. It gets great gas mileage (34 mpg city/40 mpg highway). It maneuvers well, and though it’s lacking in horsepower, it still has a good zip to it on the highway. I got the sedan model in a pretty light blue-green color. I think the official color name is Jade Sea Metallic, which isn’t very descriptive at all in my opinion.

It's Yasminda the Yaris! Ain't she a pretty car?

Though I love my new car, I am still a little sad at trading in my 2001 Nissan Sentra, aka Bunny. I know it gave me some problems, but we still went through a lot of miles and good times together! It took me safely between Iowa and Kansas on many an occasion, brought me safely to and from my internship in Cincinnati, dutifully helped me move all my belongings in and out of my college dorms/apartments, tackled icy snow drifts, rainy streets, hot Texas summers, and always listened to me belt out any song I chose on the radio without complaints. So, while I’m very excited about my new car and am happy to welcome it to the Trommer household, I’m a little sad (not too sad mind you, I do enjoy air conditioning quite a bit) at losing my old car. Hence the title (taken from an old Gilmore Girls episode), Aloha to both my cars. Good grief, I’m cheesy tonight.

A Baby Baptism

Last Saturday, Andy and I had the privilege of attending my co-worker/friend’s baby’s baptism. Neither of us have ever been to a full Catholic mass, let alone a Catholic baby baptism. Is there such a thing as a Catholic not baby baptism? I thought after a certain age it becomes confirmation, not baptism. Hm…my knowledge of Catholicism is not great. I worked Saturday morning from 8 to 4:30. The baptism was at 5:30 at a local Keller Catholic church/school called St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. After a quick make-up retouching session in the parking lot, Andy and I headed in to the church. We were amazed at all the statues, stained glass, and general grandeur of the place.

Andrea peering over Ava during the ceremony.

Despite the fact that Andy and I found the Catholic material and procedures rather confusing, it was a beautiful ceremony. That baby was blessed and saved in style my friends! I tried my hardest to take some good photos, but the lack of light, lack of flash, and my lack of photography skills in general made for some bizarre and fuzzy photos. Please feel free to look here at all the pictures I took.

I really dislike this photo of myself, but Ava and Andrea look so pretty in it that I had to put it up.

After the ceremony, we all went over to Andrea’s brother’s house for the reception. The house was beautiful, the decorations were so cute, and the food was amazing. I’ve never seen a cake with an entire prayer written on top before. Someone must have some really nice handwriting and be pretty handy with a piping bag! Andy and I chatted with all the other guests, talked about how gorgeous Andrea and Ava were, and how nobody could stop eating the delicious homemade quesadillas. Sadly, I had to work Sunday morning, so we left the party early. However, not before Andrea could wrap up a couple slices of the yummy cake for us to take home. We had a really nice time and we’re wishing both Ava and Andrea…hm…what does one wish for at a baptism? I came across the same problem when trying to write in the card. Good luck? A safe journey? Peace? Love and Happiness? Of course, I wish all these things for them, but is there something in particular one is supposed to say for a baptism? I guess we’ll just have to stick with what I finally decided to write in the card, Hooray Ava and Yay God!
