Clarification

No, I do not have avian bird flu. Nor do I have SARS or malaria. Just run of the mill, good ol’ American flu. Though much less dangerous, lessĀ  exotic, much more common, but I guarantee it’s still pretty darn miserable.

Blech…

Hello my dear friends and family, we are all back safe and sound from our adventures in China. You might wonder why haven’t I posted all my in depth musings of our travels (which by the way, don’t worry…I still plan on sharing my very important, very meaningful thoughts with you). I have a simple answer, I seemed to have caught a nasty bout of the flu on the plane flight back to Dallas. I was feeling slightly under the weather before going, and now I’m so far under the weather I may as well be a hibernating groundhog. Which just occurred to me, that comparing myself to a groundhog isn’t very flattering, nor does it make much sense. However, I did mention I have the flu, right? You will simply have to forgive any crazy and incomprehensible statements I make, the fever and general hacking up of my lungs makes my judgment and literary abilities a little weaker than usual. I just didn’t want y’all to think I’d forgotten or neglected my responsibilities as a blog writer person. To hold you over till I make a complete recovery, I believe Mr. Andy will be posting his own thoughts and pictures of our trip at his blog. Enjoy and with that said…I’m going to go cower under the blankets and whine softly to myself. I hate being sick.

Off to China

Hello online friends! Andy, Ashley, and I are off to China! I will, of course, be keeping track of our daily events and goings on during our trip. However, depending on the exorbitant hotel internet charges, my musings may have to be posted once we return. Wish us luck and a safe trip!

A Chilly Easter

Happy Belated Easter Sunday! I hope there were many chocolate bunnies devoured and joyous Easter Sunday meals. Andy and I celebrated our six month wedding anniversary on Saturday. I do feel it’s rather unfair to have to start all over. We were at 4 years when we got married, can’t we just keep adding to that? It looks so small and pathetic when I say, “yeah, it’s been six months.” So, to the powers that be or whoever decides these matters, I’d like to propose that couples be able to say how long they’ve been together, not necessarily how long they’ve been married. Or I suppose I could settle for several celebrations a year, that wouldn’t be too bad either.

Anywho, Andy took me to a wonderful restaurant called Trulucks (it’s a fancier version of the Bristol, if you can believe it). They are snobby enough that they refuse to use the city’s water supply. So, they purify and bottle their own water, or so they say. The waitress comes out with a really fancy looking bottle of water and pours it into snazzy water flutes. They could really be making the whole purifying their own water story up, but as long as they come out in fancy bottles, the general public seems to feel like they’re treated better. I had a delicious chicken madeira dish and Andy had a grilled salmon with shrimp and blue crab on top. There was a live piano player, the bathrooms were really neat (the kind of really nifty bathrooms with a mouthwash dispenser, and cloth like paper towels), and we had a terrific evening.

Yesterday, I felt like something special needed to be done for Easter. So, we invited Annie, Dave, Ethan, Eric, Griffin, and Courtney over for dinner. Sadly, only Annie and Dave were able to make it. That’s fine…leaves more ham for the rest of us. I suppose I could have been super domestic and made my own baked ham. But my parents discovered years ago, that Sam’s Club/Costco has a wonderful prepackaged ham. All you have to do is open it up, and bake for 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours. It’s very tasty, very cost efficient, and much less work. Jabber was very intrigued by the ham and plopped herself down in the middle of the kitchen floor hoping to catch a scrap of meat. Though slightly annoying, the fact that she has learned how to ring the bell to signify her need to go outside, makes up for her meat scavenging. We’re not entirely sure how or when she caught on to the bell trick, but she obediently rings her bells and waits for someone to let her outside. I’m proud, but I always knew she was a smart puppy. A smart puppy who has a grooming appointment on Thursday, I’m sure she’ll probably be fairly unhappy about that. But I’d like to send her to Andy’s parents house (where she’ll be when we’re in China) smelling nice and with…freshly squeezed anal glands? I’m perplexed by this process, but the Petsmart grooming salon says it’s necessary and included in the bath price. Who am I to say that Jabber doesn’t need…her anal glands squeezed. At least I don’t have to do it, and for that I’m grateful.
Andy and I have a busy week this week, we’re finishing up our preparations for our China trip next week. Not to mention, I’m working late shifts this week (just to learn what goes on, I won’t always have late shifts). It’s kind of nice, I’ve always been a night person and I get to sleep in during the mornings. With that said, I should probably go get ready for work. Sigh…eight solid hours of pills, grouchy patients, and finicky computer programs. I do love work.
