#22. Take 30 Pictures for 30 Days – Done!

There you have it, another item completed on my list of 30 things to do before I’m 30! Slowly but surely, I’m working my way through the list. As for the photos, there were definitely some days where I struggled to find something interesting enough to take a picture of (and I’m sure it showed), but for the most part it wasn’t too bad! And just for the record, every picture was actually taken on its assigned day. Whether or not I was able to upload them in time, that’s another story…

But let’s talk about something more fun, shall we? For instance, the beautiful Flower Fields that we visited while we were in Carlsbad, CA…over a month ago. Sorry about that! I’m a bad blogger! Moving past the guilt and on to the flowers! Ever heard of a ranunculus? The ranunculus just so happens to be my favorite flower. So when my mom mentioned being able to tour a farm that grows acres and acres of ranunculus plants for bulb harvest, there was no way I was going to miss it!!

This was my favorite color combination. I once planted some similarly colored pansies that were named "autumn cider". Maybe these are autumn cider colored ranunculus? No matter, because I'd love them just the same!

It's the Chaos in the Ranunculus Fields! Andy noticed while looking at this picture that it's very easy to tell which of us are American born. (Hint: the ones dressed in shorts, sandals, and without hats)

The problem with acres and acres of any flower is in trying to capture the scope and enormity of the place! I tried, I don't feel particularly successful. You can check out the rest of the photos at the gallery link at the bottom of this post. But for now, just enjoy this close-up of one beautiful ranunculus flower.

That same day we were in Carlsbad (04/09/2012), we also attended an architecture tour of the Salk Institute. The Salk is very famous for its contribution to scientific research and public health. But we were there to tour the building that world famous architect, Louis Kahn, designed for Jonas Salk, the founder of the Salk Institute (duh). And for those of you in Fort Worth, Louis Kahn also designed the Kimbell Art Museum‘s building. Again, architecture is not my thing. I didn’t understand the concepts or principles that the tour guide mentioned. But I can say that it is an interesting and very different place.

And this is looking back from the same courtyard back towards the parking lot. Each of those cubicles is the office of a head investigator/scientist/genius.

Day 22: Ahhh...the joys of processing labs for our research patients. Maybe someday I'll try to learn how to draw blood, but not anytime soon! (and yes, all patient info has been hidden for both privacy and study randomization sake.)
